When I got in touch with Wendy for a "portrait" , being never satisfied with images of herself, she provided me one with her holding a Barbie doll in a zip lock baggie. This is slightly telling and like her art is an everyday thing or perhaps moment in time that has been capture. The mundane has been captured

"My work primarily comes from my personal life; from issues that concern me at a particular time or from trips I take to different locales, primarily Mexico. Because the work is derived from these personal interests or experiences it also reflects my personal values which are embedded in both the form, and structure of the work as well as in the content of the work. The overarching value reflected in the work are ides that revolve around the concept of integrity ...
...The longer one works as an artist the work one produces becomes more and more integrated into one's life, one's being. Therefore, it becomes more and more difficult to state that one learns anything directly from one's work. With that said, I do feel that I have learned to trust myself and my judgements about work, and therefore, about life from my practice."
Excerpts from Toogood’s artist statement for her piece Resilient which was in the Alberta Craft Council’s September 2000 exhibition Speculations. This exhibition of fine Alberta Craft can be seen on line at the councils website.
