The BACK Page: Jacquard Resource Guide PDF  | Print |  E-mail

It occurred to me while working on this issue that a centralized on line listing of Jacquard information might be of use . This is what i have pulled together with a couple of emails going throught the stories in this issue and checking out verious websites

Some of the software manufactures featured list of their Acdemic clients as well as having Galleries. Certain artist and schools become clearly identifed with a software and even a loom. the TC-1 in particular.

What became evident was no centralized information, and I like centralized information [perhaps i have illusions of being BIG BROTHER unlike BIG BROTHER I want to share the information] There is also no guaranteed phrase that gets a good google search result.

the questions i would like you to think about after looking at the chart below is: Is there a useful need for a Jacquard Resource Guide

How to organize the information is open to suggestion. I would appreciate contritions about facilities, workshop availability.

Looking at the Pointcarrie website to see what schools use their product for teaching the US and International list is long, However like the number of Canadian schools with jacquard looms is short those using the software is shorter.

The MCCT in Montreal uses Pointcarrie and it that is were I have learnt to use it. I was taught of course by Louise Lemieux Bérubé who is proficient as both a teacher and artist having worked with the software from its introduction into the market place. She has through workshop settings at the Centre and at events through out the world taught a large number of designers and artist how to use this software.

 JacqCAD master

jacquCAD master software has a long list of university clients including NSCAD University and Capilano University in Canada

It is also associated with the Jacquard Center in Hendersonville, North Carolina for the obvious reason the the center's founder Bethanne Knudson worked them and started the center as a centralized location for teaching the software

This company has a list of UK and International Universities using their software for teaching weave structures including  Falmouth College where Ismini Samanidou teaches ( see: Inspired Design Conference Notes by me in this issue) as well as North Carolina State University were Jenna M. Eason (who wrote Any One Interested in Weaving for this issue) has just graduated from

Arahne  Arahne is a software company, specialized in developing CAD/CAM systems for weaving. well that is just a sample of things I have found  can this be built up into something useful?
