coletteBiennale internationale du lin de Portneuf  2009 June 24 through September 27,  is upon us again this biannual celebration of Flax that happens in locations around the Portneuf region in Quebec. This event is divided into 3 categories Visaul Arts, Craft and Fashion. In some ways this year it began with the launch of the 2007 catalogue a few months ago followed by the out door installation À l’ épaule by Colotte Matte which was in place on May 23  on the grounds of  the chappelle Nortre-Dame de la Paix , Lac Sergent. Two other out door pieces, Foundation by the Sisters Couture and Roots Wishes by Aude Franjou

 
fashion: Re-Appropriation curated by  Stephane Le Duc  features 21 works will be Unveiled  in Montreal on 5 pm June 1 at Les Mannequins Gender - 314, rue Sherbrooke Est, Montréal, QC then moved to Moulin Marcoux at 1 boul, Norte-Dame Port Rouge where it will open again on June 6 and remain through out the duration June 24 through September 27, 2009

 Craft: Lieux de mémoire / Places of memory, collective exhibition in crafts curated by Denis Longchamps opening June 14 at 2.pm at the La Chevrotiere Mill in Deschambault-Grondines

“History and memory are related, but distinct concepts, while history turns toward a more disant past, memory. Anchored in the present moment, interprets it: through memory, we hold on to, forget and rearranged, as we like, the events, images and people who have shaped us. Memory is embodied in “places of memory” in a way that depends on the human beings to remember, and to hold on to memory itself … Located in the La Chevrotiere Mill the exhibition brings together 12 artists and 12 works that are also places of memory, as when the use of a traditional technique ensures the transmission of know-how or when an age old material – flax- evokes the fabric we still wear today and the intimate memories we each associate with it “...
