Production Lines: the felt of Emilie Desmeules PDF  | Print |  E-mail

 

Emilie Desmeules has taken courses at both Concordia University and the Montreal Centre for Contemporary Textiles, where she studied textile creation. She has collaborated with the Cirque de soleil and in 2005 she received the Démarage d’entreprise awarded during a province wide contest for entrepreneurship in Quebec. The following year she participated in the François-Houdé Award Exhibition for finalist in Brouage, France, she has exhibited in the Salon des métiers d’art in Montreal and has brought her work to the One of a Kind Show in Toronto. She has just been in the Connective Tissue exhibition at Musée des Maîtres et Artisans du Quebec this past summer. Her piece Doigts de fées et dos crochus  was a finely render embroidery of hands sewing on a large sheet of mixed fibre felt was a fitting tribute to the generations of needlewoman in her family.

 
With her finely tuned understanding of colour and line her felt work is a stunning blend of merino wool and silk. Embedded patterned cut shaped and sewn in into garments or lengths folded into purees or pillows her richly coloured fashion and household accessories the work of a skilled artist and artisan
